Outstanding Student March 2017
This year we partnered with WSAV-TV to award a $500 academic scholarship to Collins Sherrill, a senior at Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Ga.
Parker’s President and CEO Greg Parker presented Sherrill with a check at a special ceremony at Benedictine Military School. Sherrill will automatically be entered for the chance to win an additional $1,000 academic scholarship, along with other monthly Outstanding Student Scholarship winners.
“By any measure, Collins is an impressive young man,” Parker said. “He is an AP Scholar and National Honor Society member who has been recognized for outstanding academic achievement in science, physics and other subjects.”
Sherrill, the son of Jackson and Moira Sherrill, was named the STAR Student for Benedictine for 2017 and recently participated in the Savannah Science Seminar. He is a JROTC Lieutenant Colonel and the recipient of the JROTC Academic Award as well as a versatile athlete who has participated in a sport every season for all four years of high school, including cross-country, swimming and track.
An avid volunteer with a love of community service, Sherrill has served on the Ronald McDonald Teen Board for three years, participated in the River of Life Church Mission Trip to rebuild homes and supported the Ricky McAllister Foundation program to encourage safe teen driving. He plans to major in Engineering and has already been accepted to the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech.
Parker’s and WSAV are partnering to honor outstanding students for excellence in the classroom, in the community and in sports. Every month during the school year, Parker’s will donate a $500 college scholarship to an exceptional student in Georgia or the South Carolina Lowcountry. A panel of judges carefully reviews every nomination and identifies a winner.
“At Parker’s, we have a powerful commitment to supporting education and to recognizing exceptional students in our community like Collins Sherrill,” said Parker. “We understand that education has the power to transform lives, to uplift communities and to make a positive impact.”
